Most people equate working hard with working longer hours, and the challenge with that is that time is a finite resource. Energy is a different story, and it can be improved with practice and sustained by stamina.
There are three types of energy: physical, emotional, and mind-spirit. In each, you can systematically expand and regularly renew your energy. How? By establishing specific rituals or behaviours that are intentionally practiced and precisely scheduled.
Physical energy can be replenished with good nutrition, exercise, sleep, and rest. Emotional energy is renewed through rest and recovery from stress. Mind-spirit energy is refilled by engaging with your purpose or some kind of larger meaning.
Regrettably, the high demands and the fast pace of corporate life do not leave much time to devote attention to these sources of energy. The solution is to bring awareness to the use and conservation of energy, as they are paramount to increasing endurance in your career and in your athletic endeavours.
Runners need to rehydrate, take breaks, and sometimes even walk. Corporate Athletes need to learn how to create sustainable self-care habits, too. If you can do this, you will go farther than you ever thought possible.
