As a world-class Corporate Athlete, you have to create a structure for success. This is your training plan, and it requires two key elements.
First, you must have clarity about what you want to achieve. Lay out the roadmap and begin to mark the paths that will take you where you want to go. Sometimes this feels daunting depending on the objective (especially if it is a lofty goal), but the Corporate Athlete mindset starts at the beginning and continues to chip away at the goal—before you know it, you not only see the finish line, but past it.
Next, overprepare and have contingency plans at the ready. This creates resilience, and resilience is required for success. When you have a strong foundation in place, you can view setbacks as a chance to pause, analyze what went wrong and why, and move forward smarter and stronger than before. Inevitably, both entrepreneurship and athletics include familiarity with failure: You have to trust the process, fail forward, and keep raising the bar with the lessons you learn.
With a clear game plan tucked into your back pocket and with the unwavering support of your team, you can overcome any challenge with ease because the firm foundation that you have created will be more than enough to carry you through.
