On May 11, I was honored to be involved with hosting the Annual American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Blossom Ball with my family, OncoSec Medical was one of the sponsors and together we helped raise over $150,000 for cancer research and funding. As a biopharmaceutical company developing advanced-stage immunotherapy to treat skin cancer, I believe it is very important to be involved as an individual and represent OncoSec Medical with both the ACS and the group CEO’s Against Cancer. Below is an excerpt from the speech I gave that night at the fundraiser, providing an outline on the CEO’s Against Cancer program.

“As a CEO, there are many different ways to cause or affect change. Being a corporate influencer puts you not only at the forefront of your company’s decision-making process but also in talks with many other CEOs and industry professionals. With this power also comes the chance for positive social partnerships that can benefit individuals, communities, societies and even the world…AND CEOs Against Cancer aims to do just that; bringing together CEOs from across the world, in order to help save lives, through cancer prevention and research.  Our vision is to leverage the collective knowledge, power and resources of the American Cancer Society and business community to turn the tide of this epidemic and chart a path to a world with less cancer and more birthdays for people everywhere.

As an arm of the American Cancer Society, CEO’s Against Cancer works alongside ACS: using the power and knowledge base of this group, in order to spur fundraising, spread knowledge and impact businesses, employees and their communities. This is also accomplished through the company-centric ACS Work Place Solutions that creates cancer prevention and community involvement programs for independent businesses. With these sub-groups of the organization, the American Cancer Society brings together top business executives, managers, and employees, around cancer education, community growth, and the fight against this disease.

Cancer is everyone’s business; whether we want it to be or not.

Because of funding and efforts from organizations like ACS, having cancer is no longer a death sentence and we have countless survival stories about someone close to us who had a positive outcome after their diagnosis with the C word…

From these collaborative efforts between business, academic institutions, cancer advocacy groups we are fortunate to have some of the most successful treatments today that did not exist 20 years ago because of cancer research.

So, why are we all here?

  1. Beautiful evening and setting!
  2. But we are also here because we are interested and focused on finding a cure to cancer.
  3. American Cancer Society has been leading the way to transform cancer from deadly to preventable. Let us join in this fight.
  4. By donating to the Blossom Ball, your money will help save lives by providing much needed funding for cancer research, advocacy, patient services, prevention, early detection and education.
  5. Tonight let’s help finish the fight! “
